Gravenhurst driver charged after vehicle crashes, catches fire New Year's Day

OPP

Bracebridge OPP charged a Gravenhurst driver after he fled from a collision scene where the vehicle also caught fire.

On January 1 at 12:15 a.m., officers responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway on Beiers Road in Gravenhurst and caught fire.

"Nearby residents came out of their home and assisted one occupant, however, the driver fled after the call to police was made," OPP stated in a release.

The OPP K-9 Unit and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) searched the area but couldn't locate the driver.

Following an investigation, police charged a 38-year-old Gravenhurst man with the following:

  • Dangerous Operation CC 320.13(1)
  • Failure to Stop after Accident CC 320.16(1)

"The accused is also charged with Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences," OPP added.

He is scheduled to appear in Bracebridge court on February 13.
