Two men face weapons charges following a traffic stop in Orillia.
Provincial police say a vehicle was pulled over on West Street North around 9:30 on Thursday night.
One of the suspects gave a false name to the officers and was arrested. During a search of the individual, police say they found a loaded handgun, as well as a can of bear spray in the vehicle. Police determined that the person was also in breach of condition from previous charges. A second suspect was also arrested.
A 19-year-old from North York has been charged with the following:
· Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
· Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
· Careless Use of a Firearm
· Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
· Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm Obtained by Crime
· Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
· Transport Firearm in a Careless Manner
· Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
· Possession of a Prohibited device
· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (Two Counts)
· Obstruct Peace Officer
· Possess firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
· Failure to comply with Release order (Four Counts)
The accused was held for a bail hearing on June 30, 2022, in Barrie.
A 41-year-old from Orillia was charged with the following:
· Careless Use of a Firearm
· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (Two Counts)
· Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
· Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
· Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
· Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammo
· Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm Obtained by Crime
· Transport Firearm in a Careless Manner
· Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition
The accused was held for a bail hearing on June 30, 2022, in Barrie.
