Provincial police are seeking help from the public after they received multiple reports around 7:30 Saturday morning about vandalism in the Gill Street and James Street area of Orillia, where property and vehicles were defaced with "hate-motivated" graffiti.

Police are asking residents and businesses in the area of Gill Street and James Street to review their surveillance footage for any suspicious activity between 10 p.m. on Friday, September 26 and 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 27.

"The OPP ( Ontario Provincial Police) takes hate-motivated crimes seriously, as these offences are illegal under the Criminal Code of Canada and can have lasting impacts on individuals and communities," police said in a news release.
