Health authorities report first case in Canada of blood clot linked to AstraZeneca vaccine

Canada paused AstraZeneva vaccine for under 55 last month

Canada is reporting its first case of a blood clot linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The Public Health Agency of Canada said it has received a report of an adverse event involving blood clots after a Quebec woman received the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The agency said the person is now recovering at home.

The news came as Health Canada said it was investigating reports of clots linked to the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the United States.

Health Canada said based on all the evidence, the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine still outweigh the risks. The agency asked AstraZeneca for a full risk assessment of its vaccine after reports of similar clots in Europe.

More than 700,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Canada.
