Health unit mistakenly posts 42 negative COVID cases as positive, inflating Tuesday tally

Residents whose cases were wrongly reported as positive are being contacted directly

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting a mistake in its case count.

There was an error in the uploading of some COVID-19 results from tests administered at a Barrie testing site on March 14. This resulted in 42 negative cases being erroneously classified as positive, leading to an inflated caseload increase report on Tuesday.

The health unit reported 71 cases on Tuesday, but it should have been 29.

The residents whose tests were wrongly reported are being contacted by the health unit directly.
