From South Simcoe Police
A Brampton man is charged following a year-long crime spree involving the theft and trafficking of heavy equipment.
In April of 2022, the South Simcoe Police Service Street Crime Unit began an investigation following the theft of heavy equipment from a construction site in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. The total value of the stolen equipment in that incident was approximately $100,000.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested 48-year-old Steve Stefanovski of Brampton on Thursday, July 7, 2022 and laid 32 charges. The charges include numerous counts for Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime - Trafficking Over $5000, Theft Over $5000, as well as Break and Enter and Mischief. The charges include offences outside the South Simcoe Police Service jurisdiction. The offences span approximately one year and are related to heavy equipment trafficking in South Simcoe as well as York, Toronto and OPP jurisdictions.
The total value of the items stolen over this time period exceeds $500,000. Most of the stolen items were recovered in May 2022 when police executed a search warrant at a property. Additionally, $15,000 worth of damage was caused during this crime spree.
The accused was arrested in the area of his home in Brampton, transported to the South Simcoe Police Service South Division where he was held for a bail hearing.
