Parks Canada says the Trent-Severn Waterway will open as of 9:00 Friday morning, a week later than usual.
The boating season has been delayed.
Parks Canada says with the water still high in many areas it cannot guarantee safe boating conditions so it will not be opening the Trent Severn Waterway in time for the coming long weekend.
Boat traffic and all forms of water-based activities are discouraged
The closure will ensure boater safety and help to mitigate shoreline erosion and property damage experienced by local residents and businesses. Parks Canada will continue to make adjustments to water flows in the coming days in order to restore safe conditions in preparation for the navigation season.
If conditions allow, the Trent severn Waterway will open on Friday May 24.
