A crash involving an OPP cruiser on Highway 12 in Tay Township led provincial police to lay impaired charges.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP say the collision happened early Sunday morning, just after midnight.
According to police, the SUV cruiser was pulled over on the south side of Highway 12 near Wye Valley Road and had its emergency lights activated.
"An eastbound minivan struck the rear driver-side corner of the police cruiser causing the minivan to roll onto its side and sending the cruiser into the ditch," OPP wrote in a release Monday.
"The officer in the cruiser was not injured and exited the vehicle, along with other passing motorists, to assist the driver and passenger in the minivan," OPP said.
The driver and passenger were removed and assessed by paramedics - officers say no injuries were reported.
"Upon speaking with the driver, police noticed the signs of alcohol impairment and placed the individual under arrest to be transported to detachment to provide breath samples," OPP continued.
A 31-year-old Tay Township man was charged with:
- Operation while Impaired
- Operation with a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80mg
He was released to appear in Midland court in November, and his driver's license has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
"The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education," officers said.
"If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life. The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead and to use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements."
