Provincial Police are investigating a two-vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of Highway 12 and Mississaga Road in Orillia. The crash sent two individuals to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident was reported just before 3:45 p.m. Witnesses initially reported one of the vehicles appeared to be on fire. Emergency crews closed the roadway for approximately one hour and 15 minutes to manage the scene and ensure public safety.
Both drivers were transported to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. One has been charged with failing to stop at a red light.
Drivers Ignoring Emergency Directions Spark Concern
While attending the scene, officers noted several motorists failing to follow directions, with some vehicles driving through the accident area. This behaviour not only posed risks to first responders but also jeopardized the safety of those involved in the collision.
Orillia OPP reminds motorists of the importance of adhering to instructions from emergency personnel. Failing to comply can lead to charges under the Highway Traffic Act, such as Disobey Officer Directing Traffic or Drive on a Closed Highway.
