Commuters may have a tougher time getting through Dunlop Street this week, as road work has forced the closure of one eastbound lane in the area on Highway 400.
This is part of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation's (MTO) project to construct a new expanded bridge crossing at Dunlop Street over Highway 400 and expand the interchange to accommodate future widening of Highway 400.
Lane widening and storm sewer works are the reason for the closure, according to the city. It began at 6 a.m. Monday and is set to be in effect until 5 p.m. Friday, barring weather-related delays.

Traffic can still get through the area, but motorists can expect delays. The Ministry and City are encouraging commuters to plan ahead using extra travel time and alternate routes where possible. They also warn workers may be present in the area and to take caution.
Impacts to Dunlop Street, the interchange ramps, and mainline Highway 400 have happened and are still expected throughout this phase of the project.
Work on the area has been ongoing for several months, with periodic lane closures already in place to allow for construction. The project isn't expected to be completed until Fall 2028.
Motorists have already noticed significant improvements to Highway 400 in the area, which include work on interchange reconstruction, resurfacing, median barrier replacement, drainage improvements, noise walls, and plans for future full illumination.
