Ontario is stepping on the gas.
Getting to cottage country in the summer can be a bumper-to-bumper chore, but effective Friday, motorists will be able to travel up to 110 km/h on Highway 400 from Highway 401 to Lake Joseph Road in Muskoka.
In June, the Ontario government said it was raising speed limits on another 938 kilometres of highways, bumping the standard from 100 km/h to 110 km/h.
The change builds on earlier increases rolled out in 2022 and 2024.
By the end of Sept., 89 per cent of the province's highways will have posted speed limits of 110 km/h, Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said at a news conference in June.
On Sept. 30, the speed limit will jump to 110 km/h on Highway 404 from Highway 401 to Mulock Drive in Newmarket.
