Hold and Secure lifted at Hillcrest Public as police continue searching for impaired driving suspect

Cautionary move lasted less than half an hour

A hold and secure was declared at Hillcrest Public School in central Barrie first thing Tuesday morning after a vehicle was found abandoned nearby.

The Barrie Police Service was called about a possible impaired driver in the area of the school near Toronto and Wellington Streets and arrived to find the vehicle had left the roadway and ended up down a hill behind the school.

The police K9 unit was called out to search for a suspect, and the hold and secure was put in place while officers conducted their track. The cautionary state was lifted by 9:30 a.m. while police say a suspect remains on the lam.
