A quick arrival time by Barrie police, within 90 seconds after an elderly resident contacted the cops about a break-in to their Poyntz Street home, officers got to the residence and arrested a suspect.

Around 3:30 Tuesday morning, an elderly homeowner told police they heard someone at the back of their residence on the deck, and that was followed by the sound of breaking glass and someone entering the house.

Officers went to the backyard of the home where they saw a person running from the property, but the suspect was captured in the driveway.

"He was later transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued, and it was determined that he was on probation for a previous criminal conviction," police said in a news release.

A 42-year-old of no fixed address was charged with break and enter and failure to comply with a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
