Honda says it will not restart production at its North American plants next week as planned.
The current shutdown, which began this week, was to end March 31.
A memo to employees says production is now scheduled to resume on April 7.
Honda says the extended downtime is necessary due to a steep decline in market demand due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the inability of consumers in many markets to purchase new vehicles.
The memo goes on to say Honda will continue to evaluate market conditions and make adjustments as necessary.
