Fire & Blood: Get your first look at HBO's epic Game of Thrones prequel

House of the Dragon gets first teaser trailer
House of the Dragon

After teasing us with behind-the-scenes shots and small updates, HBO has finally shown off a small trailer for House of the Dragon, a prequel to Game of Thrones.

Taking place around 200 years before the events of the original series, House of the Dragon follows the story of the Targaryen reign and the civil war that would rip their family apart. Before the Game of Thrones, Daenerys wasn't the only person in the world with dragons and most members of the royal household within the Targaryen bloodline had one. Based on the book Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, this will be TV show fans' first deep dive into the extended universe hinted at in Game of Thrones.

With the disastrous ending of the original series, fans will be happy to hear the original showrunners are nowhere in sight for this project. The show is instead being helmed by Ryan Condal (and, of course, with help from Martin) and if you want to get a taste for his work, you can check out his previous show Colony on Netflix. Be warned: Even though the show was received very well and many fans are itching for more, the show was unfortunately cancelled after 3 seasons, and it very much ends on a cliff-hanger.

For those who just can't get enough of this world, don't worry, House of the Dragon is only 1 of the many spin-off projects coming down the pipeline. Currently, there are 5 additional confirmed projects (with possibly more to come) and they are:

Dunk and Egg Project: Taking place 90 years before GOT, this one follows the story of hedge knight Sir Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, who would later become king of the Seven Kingdoms.

Nymeria Project: Set 1000 years before GOT, this show will follow Queen Nymeria who founded the Kingdom of Dorne. For GOT fans that is the desert kingdom way to the south of King's Landing.

9 Voyages: Following Lord Corlys Valaryon, the show will be a seafaring adventure from the creators of Rome, another fantastic HBO show. This character also makes an appearance in House of the Dragon

Flea Bottom: While we don't know the time period it will be set, this series will take place in the shady streets of King's Landing's slums, the birthplace of everyone's favourite smuggler turned the hand of the king, Davos Seaworth.

Animated Series: Almost nothing is known about this series yet besides the fact that it will be animated, but it could resemble the "history of Westeros" style storytelling from the Blu-ray extras.

For fans of the show (and books), there is a lot to be excited about in the coming years, and we finally know we won't have to wait much longer for our next dive into Westeros because House of the Dragon will be released sometime in 2022.
