Innisfil plays host to great deals this weekend as they hold their biggest garage sale.
Around 200 homes are expected to participate in the town-wide event that sees the community come together, raise funds for charity and clean out their home.
One of the organizers, Jacquie Raaphorst says it’s easy to find what you’re looking for at a bargain because it’s very organized.
“On our Facebook page - Innifil’s Biggest Garage Sale - you're going to find a detailed map with all the houses that are taking part, along with notes to see what these houses are selling.
Raaphorst says they do their best to spread the word as far as they can by getting the word as far away as “Toronto, Oakville to Ottawa and Guelph and everywhere in between."
The event began last year when Raaphorst wanted to hold her own sale. “I wanted my neighbours to join and my new friend Ashley Newman said ‘make things bigger, think Innisfil’s biggest garage sale, and charity.’”
In the end, 250 homes were part of the event and donated proceeds to Procyon Wildlife and Rehabilitation and Education Centre in New Tecumseth.
This year they’ve partnered with RVH, to donate funds to the new hospital being built in Innisfil.
Last year was such a success and they hope to see that repeated this weekend. “We love that it brings the community together,” Raaphorst says.
"I met many of my neighbours, including some a few doors down for the first time, and I've lived here 12 years! That’s kind of embarrassing. So it’s a good way to know your community."
