Provincial police confirmed on Monday evening that human remains have been located following a house fire on the 3rd Line in Essa Township.

According to the OPP, first responders arrived at a residence engulfed in flames just before 6:30 on Saturday morning.

One adult was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre and remains in critical, but stable condition.

A cause of death for the second person has not been determined and a post-mortem is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing to investigate, in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshall, Ontario Forensic Pathology Services and Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

Anyone with information regarding the cause of the fire is asked to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
