Huntsville man charged in death of Lake Rosseau swimmer

The victim was equipped with a swim buoy when he was struck by a vessel

Police have charged a man in connection with a boating collision that resulted in the death of a swimmer on Lake Rosseau.

OPP say on July 25, 2022, they responded to a 911 call after receiving reports of a swimmer who was unresponsive in the water near Shamrock Lodge Road in Port Carling. The 48-year-old man had been swimming while equipped with a swim buoy and was struck by a vessel. Police say life-saving efforts were made however the man died of his injuries.

After a lengthy investigation, police have charged a 26-year-old Huntsville man with operating a vessel in a careless manner.

He has a court date in Bracebridge next month.
