Contest closes Jan. 28, 2022

News release – from City of Barrie

The City of Barrie’s annual I Love Barrie contest is now open for entries and students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are welcome to express what’s special about the city by sharing artwork, a short story, or a photo. Now going into its sixth year, the 2022 contest is open for submissions until January 28.

Students are invited to submit the following:

  • Kindergarten to Grade 6 students can submit a piece of artwork.
  • Grade 7 and 8 students can submit a short story (up to 300 words).
  • Grade 9 to 12 students can submit a photo (must be high-resolution .jpg file).
  • A class (elementary or secondary school) can submit an entry collaboratively (one work of art, one photo or one short story done by students in a class).

“The I Love Barrie contest is so inspiring and positive, I look forward to it every year,” says Ward 10 Councillor Mike McCann. “Share your love of Barrie! I can’t wait to see what Barrie students create and share about why they love the city!”

This contest is open to elementary and secondary school-aged children who attend a public or private school in Barrie (English or French), or who are part of a virtual school, or who reside in Barrie and are home schooled.

The three individual student winners will receive:

  • Winners’ names and work shared on barrie.ca and in The Barrie Advance
  • The opportunity to share their winning piece at a Barrie City Council meeting in March 2022
  • A feature on the City’s flags in spring 2022
