Icebreaking In Midland Bay
The CCGS Samuel Risley Expected in Area Waters This Week
Here’s one way to break the ice… with the CCGS Samuel Risley.
Icebreaking operations expected to start near Midland this week, with the Canadian Coast Guard Ship expected to make an appearance in nearby waters by Friday.
According to the OPP, who passed on the Coast Guard head’s-up, dates, schedules and routes are subject to change with little or no notice due to weather, ice conditions, and shipping needs.
All ice surface users should plan carefully and avoid shipping lanes; broken and fragmented ice tracks could be left behind if an icebreaker or commercial vehicle passes through, and may not freeze over immediately, resulting in hazardous conditions. Newly fallen snow could obscure ship tracks.
