UPDATE: Arrest Made After Images Released in Hunt for Criminal Harassment Suspect
Crimes Against Persons Unit and Social Media Effort Credited With Leading to Charges
March 7th
A Barrie man has been charged with Criminal Harassment, after police say a social media campaign lead to his arrest.
Officers with the Crimes Against Persons Unit have arrested a 33-year-old Barrie man, after images taken from a CCTV camera were posted.
A charge of Criminal Harassment “deals specifically with a person who is being repeatedly followed, or a form of communications takes place that results in a person fearing for his or her security or safety.” says Barrie Police spokesperson Peter Leon “it could be something as simple as an email, in modern terms. It could be a letter, it could be a note, it could be any of those type of things. But the communication is such that a person is fearful that a threat or action could be carried out.”
The images of the suspect originally posted to this article have been removed now that police have laid charges.
