The motorist tried to make good his escape using a ride-sharing service
Barrie Police

An early morning startle for a homeowner on Livingstone Street West in Barrie.

The person contacted police just after 4 a.m. Wednesday to report a car had just driven across his lawn and struck his fence.

When police arrived, they learned the motorist walked away from the scene and left his car behind. Police say they eventually located the driver as he tried to flee using a ride-sharing service.

A 29-year-old was arrested for fail-to-remain, then as the investigation continued, the driver was taken back to the Barrie police station where he was introduced to a qualified breathalyzer technician.

The man is now facing the following charges:

  • impaired operation
  • impaired operation over .80mgs
  • fail to remain

He was released with a March 15 court date.
