Orillia OPP arrested and charged a driver with multiple offences after a report he was asleep behind the wheel on New Year's Eve.
Just before midnight, OPP received information on the situation at Narrows Road in Severn Township.
"Police, along with Simcoe County Paramedics arrived on scene to a male driver who was showing obvious signs of being under the influence," OPP said in a release. "The driver tried to flee police; however, police were able to stop the male safely."
A 32-year-old Orillia man has been charged with:
- Criminal Code (CC) 320.13(1) Adult Dangerous operation.
- CC 320.17 Adult Flight from peace officers.
- CC320.14(1)(a) Adult Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs.
- CC 129(a) Adult Resist Peace Officer.
- CC 355(b) Adult Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.
- Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) 4(1) Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin).
- CDSA 4(1) Adult Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Methamphetamine.
- CC 320.18(1)(a) Adult Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code. X9
- CC 733.1(1) Adult Fail to Comply with Probation Order x2.
- Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 531(a) Adult Driving while under suspension. X5
- HTA 12(1)(d) Adult Use plate not authorized for vehicle.
- Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA) 2(1)(a) Adult Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
As well, his driver's license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
