A 54-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder by Bracebridge OPP in connection with the death of an inmate at the Beaver Creek Correctional Institution in Gravenhurst.
Police say the suspect is also an inmate at the prison.
Officers responded to the facility on Sunday night regarding an inmate with significant injuries. The 31-year-old Alberta man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Muskoka Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
