Innisfil celebrates newest outdoor AED placement

Release - Town of Innisfil

Members of the Town of Innisfil Council will joined by Hugh Heron, Principal, Chairman of Heathwood Homes and Heron Homes, Herity and The Mikey Network and Dave Pratt, Team Lead, Tarpin Lumber and Truss for the installation of a new automated external defibrillator (AED) at Innisfil Beach Park.

AEDs are portable devices designed to provide life-saving treatment to individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The AED donation was made possible through the Mikey Network named for Mike Salem – a partner in Heathwood Homes and Herity. In the summer of 2002, Mike was on a golf course Muskoka. He hit his first shot, drove up to his second and then his heart skipped a beat. Miles away from help, Mike passed away doing what he loved best, playing golf. In 2003, The Mikey Network was established by Heathwood and Herity in memory of Mike.

“We established The Mikey Network to honour our dear colleague and find a meaningful way to celebrate his life, while hopefully saving countless others,” says Hugh Heron. “One of the most significant impacts was the use of one of our donated AEDs to save the life of a three-month old baby and to-date 5,000 of our donated AEDs have been installed, not just in Canada but around the world, with the latest one being at Innisfil Beach Park.”

This brings the total count of available AEDs throughout Innisfil to 24 with the latest one located at the park operations building, closest to parking lots C and D as well as Beach 2.

“We’re grateful to have received another AED donation in Innisfil thanks to The Mikey Network,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “While I hope no one ever has to use it, having this AED helps ensure life-saving care is available at our most popular waterfront park if there’s a cardiac emergency.”
