News release - Town of Innisfil
The Town of Innisfil is thrilled to launch Family Wellness Nights, a free event promoting community togetherness, belonging, and the well-being of Innisfil’s children, youth, and families.
The first Family Wellness Night will take place at Alcona Glen Elementary School on Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
“Young people today are facing enormous pressures,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin.
“From climate change and pandemic-related impacts to the culture of comparison embraced by social media, it’s a tough world to navigate. Our Family Wellness Nights initiative aims to provide children and youth with safe spaces to gather and connect while equipping parents with resources to nurture their children’s well-being, healthy development, and overall success.”
Hosted in Innisfil schools, Family Wellness Nights will feature a variety of activities, including informative workshops for parents and caregivers, wellness-focused programming for children and youth, dinner, refreshments, and opportunities to socialize with other families. Community tables will also be set up, providing valuable information about local programs and services.
The Family Wellness Night at Alcona Glen, themed "Supporting Innisfil's Children and Youth to Thrive," is a joint effort with the Simcoe County District School Board. Two insightful workshops will be offered during the evening, including:
- Co-Regulation: The Bridge to Self-Regulation, facilitated by Sheera Perry, Child & Youth Counsellor at In Bloom Support Services.
- Guiding the Digital Generation: Nurturing Positive Mental Health in the Social Media Era, facilitated by Amanda Fellows, Community Programs Manager at CFS Counselling + Well-Being.
Family Wellness Nights are open to all children, youth, and families in Innisfil. Those interested in attending are asked to register at innisfil.ca/FamilyWellness. Interpretation services and transportation support are available upon request.
