@Innisfil_FIRE performed an ice rescue on Lake Simcoe today. Ice has broken up and they couldn’t make it to shore. High winds and warm temps have made the ice very unsafe. A little fish isn’t worth the risk. No ice is safe ice. pic.twitter.com/cmM0wl2A2k— Innisfil Fire (@Innisfil_FIRE) March 12, 2021
Innisfil Fire used its rescue airboat to pluck three people to safety who had been ice fishing on Lake Simcoe Friday afternoon. They got stuck on a chuck of ice that broke up and drifted.
The Town of Georgina tweeted pictures of dangerous ice conditions on Lake Simcoe.
The powerful winds of the past few days also pushed ice slabs up on to the shoreline in Georgina.
