Janssen to try federal politics

Former provincial candidate will carry NDP flag for Barrie-Springwater-OroMedonte into federal election

Dan Janssen has been chosen to lead the New Democrats in Barrie Springater oro Medonte onto the fall federal election

He was acclaimed at a meeting Tuesday night.

Janssen was an unsuccessful NDP candidate in the riding in the last provincial election.

He told supporters the New Democrats have a proud history of fighting for everyday Canadians, “New Democrats brought our great nation universal healthcare, public pensions and the expansion of Canada’s social safety net. I’m proud to be standing on the shoulders of giants like Tommy Douglas and Jack Layton, and I’m ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to bring an NDP government to Canadians this fall.”

Janssen sahred some of the NDP’s platform:

  • truly universal pharmacare
  • a plan to fix our unfair system of taxation
  • a commitment to build 500,000 new affordable housing units and make it easier for people to purchase or rent a home
  • going after cellphone companies to reduce prices;
  • a ban on single-use plastics
  • a just transition to a green economy
