Ontario Premier Doug Ford has named Jill Dunlop as his new education minister just hours after Todd Smith announced his resignation.

Smith took on the portfolio less than three months ago, but he says today he is leaving government for a job in the private sector.

Smith's departure prompted Ford to shuffle his cabinet around, namely moving Dunlop from colleges and universities to education.

Nolan Quinn, who was promoted to cabinet a little over two months ago as associate minister of forestry, now takes over as minister of colleges and universities.

Kevin Holland will move from the backbenches to become associate minister of forestry.

Ford also created a new cabinet position, naming Graham McGregor as associate minister of auto theft and bail reform.

That brings the size of his cabinet to 37 people.
