I cannot think of a better way to spend the first day of the new year.

On the New Year's Eve Live broadcast on CNN, John Mayer made a video appearance from a cat cafe in Tokyo.

The crooner is currently in Japan for his tour but decided to have fun at one of Tokyo's famous cat cafes.

CNN Hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper couldn't contain their laughter at the image of several cats crawling around the bar.

Cohen said, "This doesn't look sanitary, John!"

Mayer said it passes all health codes, so it's fine.

"I'm at a cat bar called 'Cats in the backs' in Tokyo and celebrating New years'. We're already halfway through the first day of 2024 here."

Petting the sweet cats, he added, "I'm here with Shin and five other proprietors of the bar."

Cohen and Anderson still couldn't get over it, so Mayer explained again,

"This is a place you can come, have a drink or two and talk to the cats. It's a cat bar; I don't know how clear I can be about the objective of this place," he added.

Mayer maintained his composure the whole time, but Cohen and Cooper completely lost it and went into fits of laughter.

The segment went viral, with people loving John Mayer's moment with the animals.

Now that's how you spend a new year!
