K9 Unit nabs fleeing suspect in Innisfil
Police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle
The South Simcoe Police K9 Unit was called out to help track down a suspect who fled from officers in a stolen vehicle in Innisfil.
Police say an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Leslie Dr and Willard Avenue on Sunday afternoon because the licence plate did not match the description of the vehicle.
Rather than pull over for police, the motorist fled at a high rate of speed. For public safety, there was no pursuit by police.
A responding officer located the vehicle abandoned behind model homes in the area of the 6th Line and Angus Street.
The K9 Unit conducted a 4-kilometre search and tracked the suspect to some railway tracks and he was arrested.
Police said the vehicle was stolen from another jurisdiction.
A 23-year-old Innisfil man is up on charges including flight from police and dangerous operation and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was released with a future court date.
