Kids Fishing Day 2023

Gone fishing at Heritage Park.

Kempenfelt Rotary Club's Kids Fishing Day is taking over part of the waterfront on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The free event invites kids and families to come together and enjoy a day of fishing.

Joannie McKee, from the Kempenfelt Rotary Club, told Barrie 360 that they're expecting a large turnout.

"We have over 900 kids registered," said McKee. "This is a big day for us. We're expecting more than 1,200 kids."

She noted that registering prior to the event is preferred, but those who don't can at the event.

Is a fishing licence needed?

"No licence is needed," said McKee. "This is why we hold Kids Fishing Day on this particular weekend every year."

What about a fishing rod and tackle?

"We do have fishing rods," said McKee. "If you have your own favourite fishing rod and tackle box, we always encourage you to bring that. But for those that don't have a rod, we absolutely have that available, and it's yours to keep."

McKee also says there will be more things to do than just casting lines.

Participants can look forward to a range of activities including a fun park, exotic birds, and reptiles.
