Landlord of illegal Midland rooming house fined thousands for fire code violations

Flame

The owner of an illegal rooming house in Midland has been fined more than $16,00 after being convicted earlier this month of several offences under the Ontario Fire Code.

According to a news release from the town, the owner, who is not a resident of the community, was fined for failing to maintain smoke alarms, as well as failing to comply with an inspection order.

Fire officials conducted an inspection of the property last March and found no working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms in the basement of the unit and multiple retrofit requirements.
