Big bucks for local charities and maybe you, but you have to purchase a ticket(s) for the Barrie Catch the Ace Lottery.
The Barrie Legion Branch 147 and the Rotary Club of Barrie said the draw this week is worth $207,000, the largest jackpot in Central Ontario history. It's a combination of the jackpot plus the weekly prize of $10,000.
"It's a wonderful fundraiser for the charities that benefit from the proceeds," according to Ian Pavlik, Catch the Ace committee member and a representative of the Barrie Rotary Club.
Charities that have benefited from previous draws include the Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the Barrie Food Bank, Hospice Simcoe, Youth Haven, the Salvation Army and others.
50 per cent of the ticket sales goes to the charities, according to Pavilik.
The Legion gets some of the proceeds for renovations and toward running the organization.
Tickets for the draw are just $5 and can be purchased online barriecatchtheace.ca or at the Barrie Legion 147 Branch on St. Vincent Street.
The draw will take place on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the legion branch, and Pavlik says the public is invited to attend the event or watch on Facebook.
The Catch the Ace Lottery is managed through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
