Residents who frequent the Barrie Public Library's Downtown location will need to adjust their schedules as the library announces a temporary closure from December 4th to 8th.
Additionally, there will be a city-wide closure on December 7th, impacting all library locations, to facilitate a comprehensive staff training day.
Limited Service At Downtown Branch
The Downtown location will undergo a period of limited services to execute essential flooring repairs in the lobby area.
While the Library will pause in-person services, partial services are available on:
- Monday, December 4
- Tuesday, December 5
- Wednesday, December 6
- Friday, December 8
Patrons can access limited services via the delivery door on McDonald Street between 10 am and 5 pm. Services available during this period include:
- Picking up holds
- Requesting items
- Picking up themed grab bags
- Complimentary printing of up to 10 pages
To streamline the process, patrons can schedule Express Pick-up appointments. You will also be able to return items 24/7 through the outdoor return slot.
Christopher Vanderkruys, the Director of Business and Development at the Barrie Public Library, emphasized the necessity of this closure. "Much of the lobby space is original from when the Downtown library was built in 1996 and is in need of restoration and repair."
Vanderkruys continues, "We've made a number of updates to freshen up the building over the last couple of years, and this continues that work. We're looking forward to a more welcoming, brighter feel when you walk in the entrance."
The Painswick and Holly locations of the Barrie Public Library will continue to operate with full services on these days.
All Locations Closed On Thursday
On Thursday, December 7th, all library locations will be closed for an all-staff training day. This opportunity will bring together the entire library team for professional development and team-building activities.
Lauren Jessop, CEO of the Barrie Public Library, highlighted the significance of this day.
"This full closure gives us a chance to say thank you to our staff for all their hard work, complete staff training, and have a chance for team building," Jessop remarked. "We try to plan these training days during times that may already be disrupted by facilities maintenance so we can minimize the impact on our community."
As the library embraces these necessary improvements and invests in staff development, patrons are encouraged to plan ahead and leverage online resources or visit alternative locations for their library needs.
