Orillia Secondary School was placed in lockdown around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and several nearby schools were placed in hold and secure as Ontario Provincial Police received information that a student may have had a gun at the school.

The investigation resulted in a 16-year-old being taken into custody.

Police allege the teen shared a photo on social media of what appeared to be a gun but it was actually a replica firearm.

The youth was charged with mischief.
