News release - City of Barrie
Launching on Valentine’s Day, the City of Barrie’s annual I Love Barrie contest is now open for entries.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 can express why they love Barrie by sharing artwork, a short story, or a photo.
Now going into its seventh year, this year’s contest is open for submissions until the end of March.
Students are invited to submit the following:
- Kindergarten to Grade 6 students can submit a piece of artwork.
- Grade 7 to 12 students can submit a short story about how why they love Barrie (up to 300 words) or a photo of their favourite spot in Barrie (must be a high-resolution .jpg file).
- A class (elementary or secondary school) can submit an entry collaboratively (one work of art, one photo or one short story done by students in a class).
“The I Love Barrie contest is just one way we invite our community to get involved with their city,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall. “I look forward to hearing all the things that local youth love about Barrie, and seeing the creative ways students capture our great city.”
This contest is open to elementary and secondary school-aged children who attend a public or private school in Barrie (English or French), or who reside in Barrie and are homeschooled.
The three individual student winners will receive:
- An I Love Barrie prize pack
- Winners’ names and work shared on barrie.ca and in The Barrie Advance
- The opportunity to share their winning piece at a Barrie City Council meeting this spring
The winning class will receive:
- City of Barrie items for each student in the class
- A lunch for the class
- Winning class name/school shared on barrie.ca and in The Barrie Advance
Contest entries can be submitted online via barrie.ca/LoveBarrie. The contest deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, and winners will be announced in early April.
