(UPDATE) $50K damage following fire at Barrie straw plant

Investigators say overheated machinery is believed to have sparked a fire at BiEco Products on Saunders Road in Barrie.

A fire department spokesperson tells Barrie 360 they were called out to the facility, which makes biodegradable paper straws, around 8:30 Tuesday night.

Damage is pegged at $50,000.

The flames were contained to the unit.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
