A man has been charged after a charity box was swiped from a business on Mill Street in Essa Township.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say they were alerted about the theft on Wednesday.

Police say someone had entered the store the night before and walked out with the donation box.

Thanks to surveillance footage and some help from the public, officers were able to identify a suspect.

A 28-year-old man from Essa Township has been charged with theft under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.
