Barrie firefighters had to douse a blaze inside a building at 75 Bradford Street around 10:30 Thursday night.
"The building, which had previously served as a sales pavilion was filled with dense smoke, and although attempts were made to enter and search for anyone who may be in it, police were able to call out, which resulted in a lone male exiting from the abandoned structure," police said in a news release on Friday.
A 31-year-old of no fixed address was charged with break and enter and mischief under $5,000.
The accused has since been released and has a court date next month.
