The lone occupant of an SUV was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Barrie.
Just before 9:45 Wednesday night, police responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Huronia Road, south of Mapleview Drive East.
Police say a northbound SUV left the road, struck a tree and came to rest on its side. Barrie firefighters had to cut through the wreckage to reach the driver.
Once free, the driver, in his early 50s and from Barrie, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Huronia Road was closed for several hours between Saunders Road and Mapleview Drive East for the investigation.
"Barrie police wish to thank the motorists who stopped and attempted to render assistance until emergency services arrived at the scene, and to those who assisted the investigators by sharing their observations," police stated in a news release.
