Five people are facing charges after provincial police responded just after nine Saturday night to a report of a suspicious vehicle and people wearing masks near an abandoned building on Colborne Street East in Orillia.
When officers arrived, they found a U-Haul truck parked in front of the address.
Based on the information provided in the call and concern for possible injuries, police entered the building to ensure no one inside required help.
"Once inside the building, officers located an adult male who was conscious but bound and suffering from serious injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment," police said in a news release.
With the assistance of various OPP units, including the Emergency Response Team, Tactical Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, Aviation Services, and the Orillia Crime Unit, five individuals were located and arrested.
The suspects have each been charged with kidnapping, two counts of forcible confinement, and one count of break and enter a place to commit an indictable offence.
Three of the accused are from Brampton, and the other suspects are from Woodbridge and Toronto, and range in age from 30 to 62.
