Man responsible for maintaining vehicle involved in fatal crash charged in connection to driver’s death

Commercial motor vehicle lost control and hit a tree

A man who police say was responsible for the upkeep of a vehicle that was involved in a fatal collision last year has been charged in connection to the driver’s death.

Nottawasaga OPP say a commercial motor vehicle was heading north on Adjala-Tosorontio/New Tecumseth Townline Road on the morning of September 22, 2020, when it lost control, went into the ditch, and struck a tree near the 2nd Concession.

The driver, the vehicle’s only occupant suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Police have identified him as 53-year-old Denis Garant of North York.

Following a lengthy investigation, police have charged a 44-year-old Toronto man with Causing Death by Criminal Negligence. Investigators say he was responsible for the vehicle’s maintenance. He has an early June court date to answer to his criminal charge.
