Police have charged a Mississauga man in connection with a shooting that occurred last fall in downtown Barrie.
On Monday, police say the 28-year-old suspect went to Barrie Police Headquarters where he surrendered.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, using a restricted or prohibited firearm, as well as multiple firearms and drug-related offences.
The shooting happened in the late afternoon on Nov. 24, 2023 at the back of 133 Dunlop Street East.
"Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that County of Simcoe Paramedics were tending to a 60-year-old female victim who had sustained a serious gunshot wound," police stated in a news release on Thursday afternoon.
The woman was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre and treated for life-threatening injuries.
According to the news release, police issued an arrest warrant for the suspect after investigators conducted "a very detailed and comprehensive investigation."
The accused was held for a bail hearing and was later remanded in custody. He was to appear in court by video link on Thursday.
