Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day being celebrated Wednesday with online event

Wednesday May 6th is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day

Due to the isolation that many families are experiencing during this time of distancing, maternal mental health needs to be addressed more than ever.

Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin has proclaimed May 6 “Innisfil Maternal Mental Health Awareness Day”¬†and you’re invited to show up for the cause during an online event. Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman has declared this first week of May as Maternal Mental Health Week.

All Maternal Mental Health walks across the province have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions, but everyone can still get together virtually to provide support and learn about resources for moms and families.

Tiffany Smith, a local mom, maternal mental health advocate, and owner of Serenity Wellness group says she worries about an increase in prenatal & postpartum depression, and the impact that isolation will have on families. Now more then ever we need a National Perinatal Mental Health Strategy, Smith adds.

Join the online event between 10 am – 12:30 pm on Wednesday, May 6.
