May Be Some Ominous Sounds From CFB Borden Until August
Controlled detonations planned
Soldiers in the ammunition technician course at Base Borden will be setting off controlled detonations over the next month and a half – as many as 20 a day in clusters of four or five – between 8 am and 6 pm.
How loud it gets on the abse and surrounding areas will depend on atmospheric conditions; sound may travel further on cloudy, overcast days.
Rigorous safety standards will be strictly observed. While there is no risk to the local population, it could startle a few people.
Soldiers from the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre (CFLTC) ammunition technician course will be conducting controlled detonations at CFB Borden from June 17 through August 1, 2019, excluding weekends, between the hours of approximately 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Canadian Armed Forces employ a wide range of ammunition on ranges across Canada. Ammunition technicians assist in the safe and expedient disposal of any misfired or dud ammunition in Canada or on deployed operations overseas.
