OPP seized drugs, weapons, and charged two following an incident where two people barricaded themselves in a Midland apartment.
On Friday around 2:30 p.m., Southern Georgian Bay OPP say they received reports of a dispute outdoors in the area of Bay Street and Second Avenue.
“On arrival, officers learned that a male involved in the dispute was observed carrying a firearm before leaving the area in a vehicle,” police wrote in a release on Saturday.
Officers say an investigation led them to an apartment complex on William Street where the man and a woman barricaded themselves inside.
Both were taken into custody and officers executed a search warrant shortly before 11:00 p.m.
"Officers were able to locate and seize a quantity of drugs namely opioids, cocaine and psilocybin along with several airsoft rifles, ammunition, a machete, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia," police stated on Monday.
A 45-year-old Midland man faces the following charges:
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Carrying concealed weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
- CDSA 5(2) Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
A 40-year-old Midland woman was also charged with:
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a Schedule III substance for the purpose of Trafficking
The two were held for bail hearings and are scheduled for a future court date.
