OPP say the suspect produced an edged weapon during interaction with police

Southern Georgian Bay OPP made a gunpoint arrest at a motel in Midland on Monday morning.

OPP say two 911 calls came in around 12:45 a.m. by staff from the motel on King Street – who reported suspicious persons on the property possibly breaking into vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers say they were directed inside the motel to a possible ongoing assault incident and encountered an involved, lone, agitated individual who produced an edged weapon during interaction with police.

The suspect was arrested at gunpoint.

A 39-year-old Midland man faces charges including possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and causing a disturbance.

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before Ontario court in January 2023.
