Southern Georgian Bay OPP made a gunpoint arrest at a motel in Midland on Monday morning.

OPP say two 911 calls came in around 12:45 a.m. by staff from the motel on King Street - who reported suspicious persons on the property possibly breaking into vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers say they were directed inside the motel to a possible ongoing assault incident and encountered an involved, lone, agitated individual who produced an edged weapon during interaction with police.

The suspect was arrested at gunpoint.

A 39-year-old Midland man faces charges including possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes, and causing a disturbance.

The accused was released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before Ontario court in January 2023.

Anyone with information about a crime can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or opp.southern.georgian.bay@opp.ca or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers can be contacted at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and anonymous tips can also be provided online at CrimeStoppers.
