Barrie police apprehend erratic driver for impaired operation

Reports of the driver 'cutting off other motorists'

A Midland man faces impaired driving charges after reports of a vehicle driving “erratically, at excessive speeds, and cutting off other motorists.”

Tuesday morning, just before 11:30 a.m., the driver was initially seen travelling southbound on Highway 11, south of Orillia.

Police say his erratic driving was reported as he exited Highway 400 and headed northbound on Bayfield Street in Barrie.

According to officers, the driver struck some curbs as he approached a coffee shop near a Cundles Road West plaza.

Officers arrested the 47-year-old and transported him to Barrie Police Headquarters for further investigation.

The accused was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – over .80mgs
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • An offence under the Liquor Licence Act

His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven.

He is scheduled to appear in Barrie court on April 19.
