A 60-year-old man's death in Minden Hills Sunday is being investigated by Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

According to a release today by the SIU, Haliburton Highlands OPP were called by a person around 5:30 p.m. to report they were "concerned for the well-being of a man."

"Police were told that the man had left his property with a firearm," officials stated.

"Soon after OPP officers arrived on scene, in the area of Highway 1 and Highway 17, there was an exchange of gunfire between an officer and the man, who was in some bushes. The man was located deceased. His fatal injury was determined to be self-inflicted."

Three investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is asking anyone with information about the investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
